Bruce, an Agricultural Technologist with the Saskatchewan Institute of
Agrologists, graduated from the U of S in 1971. Following that, he worked
selling and designing homes for Lindal Cedar Homes and in promotions for several
years while attending the College of Agriculture before returning home to the
family farm in 1976. There he joined his father, uncle, and brother in a family
corporation that operated a mixed grains/livestock farm at Imperial,
Saskatchewan. They became seed growers' and opened a certified cleaning plant
that is still operating.
Outside of farm management, Bruce has been keenly interested in Emergency
Medicine and worked as an EMT in his community for 14 years. Volunteerism has
been a big part of Bruce's life. He began to be interested in community through
his participation with 4-H as a youth (Beef & Light Horse) including
provincial and national selections. He sat on various Boards and committees
including the Saskatchewan (Road) Ambulance Association executive, the Emergency
Medical Planning Committee for SIAST, and most recently spent two years on the
Regina Health District Board. He brought to Imperial one of the first EMT
courses that SIAST delivered to a small rural community and saw the development
of the regulations that brought in the modern day Ambulance legislation that
placed Saskatchewan second to none in Canada's emergency care. He has been
involved in EMO disaster planning, evaluating, and training. He chaired the
InterPhase Saskatchewan conference (the longest running and most successful
Emergency Medical Services conference in Canada) for several years as well as
sitting on the Board for several other years. He has also chaired the local
Recreation Board and School Board. He has and is involved as coach and trainer
for his sons' baseball and hockey teams respectively. He is currently a
co-leader with the Mountain View 4-H Beef Club.
Like his partners he delivered various farm management courses during the winter
months. Farming to Win (Focus on Planning) is where he got his start and team
taught with Larry. Then he assisted in the development of Double Entry
Accounting and Records (DEAR) and delivered that program for several years along
with Bernie. He has also taught marketing and the pre-cursor to the current
FBMInet when it was a BBS. He assisted Larry and Bernie as they developed a
resource manual Better Utilization of Land for Livestock. He co-chaired the
Information Technology subcommittee of Agriculture and Agri-Food Innovation
Fund. In 1998, he lead the team that developed the Managing Agricultural Records
for Success (MARS) CD. Currently he leads the development of On-Line Web
Learning programs. Bruce is a Certified Consultant for Settler Agricultural
Software.
