Ted earned a B.Sc.Ag. from the University of Alberta. Upon graduation, Ted
spent a year with the Alberta Wheat Pool before joining Alberta Agriculture in
1977 as a Regional 4-H Specialist. Ted transferred to extension in 1980 and
served as a district agriculturist in Three Hills, Claresholm, and Red Deer. In
1994, Ted left the government to start his own consulting firm, Kaniteo
Information Service. With KIS, Ted specializes in computer applications for
agriculture, writing ag software as well as distributing third party ag software
products. As well, he works with clients in developing computerized solutions
for accounting and management concerns. Increasingly, Ted is spending more time
developing web sites and Internet solutions for clients.
Ted has developed a number of Internet delivered farm management training
courses. He is currently pursuing a Masters in Distance Education degree from
the University of Athabasca. Ted's intent in tackling the MDE program was to
gain a set of tools to benefit his clients and the ag sector in general in terms
of the training opportunities that Internet technology offers. Besides, distance
delivery, Ted has taught face to face computerized farm management for Olds
College in the past and is currently teaching a number of precision farming
courses for Olds, both at the college and in outlying communities. For the past
2 years, Ted has delivered a number of "Computerized Farm Management
Development Series" courses for Advanced Systems in Red Deer and Lacombe.
Ted is a Professional Agrologist (P.Ag.) and takes an active role in the Alberta
Institute of Agrologists, having served as President of the Red Deer branch of
A.I.A. He is also a member of the Alberta Distance Education and Training
Association (ADETA). As a diversion from the one-eyed monster of the computer
screen, Ted enjoys trail riding, mountain biking, skiing and playing an almost
acceptable alto sax in Red Deer's Adult Community Band.
